Portland Rescue
Mission
As a member of the
Board of Portland Rescue Mission, I would like to introduce you to their
programs and good works. They are truly restoring order and dignity to
people's lives, and we share their core values. Please take some time to
learn about this fine organization and ways you can get involved.
Vicki Norris
President Restoring Order®
Since 1949, the Portland Rescue Mission has ministered to a diverse
homeless population that now includes younger men, women with
children, families, the mentally ill, the drug addicted, the
handicapped, veterans and members of all races.
With this changing population’s special needs, the
Mission has adapted its services accordingly with the 1994 opening of “Shepherd’s Door,” a transitional women and
children’s shelter.
The
Portland Rescue Men's Mission provides:*
Meals twice a day, serving as many as 100-200 men every
day of the year.
* Showers and clothing distribution daily for the men who come
to the Mission’s
doors.
* Shelter from the cold. The Mission provides a safe,
warm, clean environment
in which the men can sleep every night of the year.
* Chapel services are conducted by local churches each
evening before dinner.
* Mailing privileges. When a man is homeless, he has no
address where he can
receive mail, Social Security checks, or other forms of financial
assistance.

Shepherd's
Door provides:
* Shelter for homeless women and children.
* A comfortable, safe and secure facility.
